Sex is natural. The way our culture has traditionally viewed sex is as something dirty, needing to be glorified as only a means of producing off-spring. Movements such as the Feminism Movement and the Sexual Revolution of the 1960s, opened up young people's views as a sub-culture especially as a fun, really cool, conscious-raising activity for pleasure. Two miracles of the human species' inventions are condoms and birth control pills. Birth control pills are more effective than condoms, and using both is your best guarantee of not only no pregnancy, but also no STDs. As a young person after the 1980s, the idea of STDs still is terrifying, but respectfully not as close to a sub-culture alienating illness as AIDS in the 1980s. The most disturbing thing I remember from Sex Education class in high school was being told about the horrendous diseases one could contract during sex. Not only are sexualities, gender identities (which in terms of the Transgender community having sex are indirectly connected), the birth control pill, the formation and beauty and weakness of a child being alive, how to have sex in same sex couples, how to have a safe orgy (don't look at me like that), fetishes, self esteem, bodily fluids involved in both the vagina and the penis, the structure of the vagina, vaginal health, vaginal cancer, prostate health and impotency, affirming healthy boundaries in relationships, how to buy and use a vibrator naturally, what the fuck a yeast infection is, how to feel like your head, body, and emotions won't be the end of you or your relationships while your menstration cycle follows you until your 50s preparing you for the incredible creation of a living breathing baby 24/7 and still keeping your sanity during that, pregnancy, menopause, and possible osteoporosis (and men wonder why women are a little hyped, try bleeding. BLEEDING from your sexual organ and having an aversion to blood, and having a mid year the NEXT DAY AND EVERY FEMALE YOU'VE HUNG OUT WITH EVERY DAY SINCE YOUR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL HAS THEIR'S TOO, AND THAT BITCH IN MATH CLASS LOOKS SO HOT, AND MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE GARBAGE WITH ONE COMMENT ABOUT THEM BEING FUCKING IN CHARGE OF THE GROUP PROJECT THAT IS SOMEHOW IMPORTANT TO EVERYONE BUT YOU, AND YOU HAVEN'T HAD SEX BECAUSE YOU'RE TIRED EVERYDAY, AND YOU JUST NEED CHOCOLATE---THAT'S ALL! HOW MEN CAN HAVE BONERS TILL THEIR 100, BECAUSE OF A MIRACLE PILL, AND WOMEN DON'T GET A DAY OFF FOR BLEEDING ALL DAY, NEVER MIND A WEEK A MONTH, (FIRE fROM THE MOTUH OF A FEMALE WHEN YOU ASK HOW HER DAY IS, THROW CHOCOLATE OR A CHEESEBURGER AND RUN, I just saved your relationships for life, nevermind your possible marriages), how to check if lubes won't irritate your vagina or penis, why your breasts hurt sometimes, breast health, dental hygiene, abortion, abortion rights, how to choose when to if needed, the day after pill (it's very strong medicine, so take with caution of you have a strong reaction to medicine, if you do don't take it), rape policy, how to talk to someone who needs help after being raped, how and when to get your tubes tied or get a vasectomy, attraction regardless of race, sex, body-type, or sexuality being natural, and how one can get hurt during sex, fat positivity, nutrition, ARE NEVER SPOKEN ABOUT.
I AM AN AMERICAN YOUNG ADULT, well I'm almost 21 so... I'm an adult, but to other 21 year olds I can't exactly concur that label. Sexual health and comfort is key to socializing and self-esteem, not to mention HEALTH. You know, the second word after Adolescent in the School Health handbook. Condoms are AMAZING. they literally protect you from getting pregnant, and from getting sick. I recently got a prescription for birth control. And it's AMAZING. I couldn't believe what an amazing difference that one little pill could make me feel from how I usually felt. Anything that keeps you from not having a hormone roller coaster during that time is AMAZING. PLEASE TRY BIRTH CONTROL. AGE SIXTEEN. AMAZING. FUCKING WHOAH. Maybe social movements exploring and celebrating sexuality wouldn't be necessary if people in the education system actually did their job and talked about HEALTH. Love your body.
